ELVA J. JONES ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship was established by WSSU computer science alumni, Harrison and
Lemmon Porter in February 2004 to honor the WSSU computer science department
chair, Dr. Elva J. Jones. As a
way of giving back the Porters wanted to give other students the opportunity to
benefit from the outstanding computer science program that their alma mater has
to offer. The scholarship supports computer science majors. It is supported by the Porters former classmates and
friends.
CHANCELLOR'S SCHOLARSHIP
A competitive merit scholarship awarded annually
to entering freshmen students. Candidates must have a minimum 3.5 cumulative
high school grade point average and at least a 1100 or above SAT score
or 21 on the ACT score. the candidate must enroll in at least 15
credit hours per semester. Award is renewable if student maintains at least
a 3.2 grade cumulative point average each semester. Award covers tuition,
fees, room, board and books. All scholarship recipients must complete the
FAFSA annually. Scholarship awards will include any Title IV funds students
are eligible to receive. (Approximately 10 awards made annually.
NORTH CAROLINA INCENTIVE SCHOLARSHIP
A competitive merit scholarship awarded annually
to entering freshmen students. Candidates must be a North Carolina resident
ranking in the top 50 percent of their high school graduation class with
a 3.0 or above cumulative grade point average and minimum 900 SAT score.
Candidate enroll at least 15 hours per semester. Awards range from $200
to $3,000 annually. Award is renewable. All scholarship recipients must
complete the FAFSA annually. Scholarship awards will include any Title
IV funds students are eligible to receive.
TRANSFER STUDENTS - Must have a 2.5 cumulative grade point average from an accredited North Carolina Community College. Candidate must have graduated with an Associate Degree or Certificate and enrolled in at least 15 credit hours each semester. (Approximately 30 awards made annually)
WSSU TRANSFER SCHOLARSHIP - To be eligible for the $1000 scholarship, candidate must transfer at least 60 semester hours of college credit from an accredited two year or four year college or university. An overall college grade point average of 3.0 is required. the candidate must complete a community/public service requirement.
MUSIC SCHOLARSHIPS - Awards are made by Band director, Choir Director and Concert Ensemble Director. Applications is by audition. (Contract the fine Arts Department for details).
NOTE: Candidates for these awards are recruited annually based on admissions data and applications are automatically mailed to students who qualify have the highest competitive records. Because of limited funds, we do not have applications available upon request.
