
Program Description
Winston-Salem State University (WSSU) offers The Master of Science in Computer Science and Information Technology (MCST).
This program provides students who seek a master's degree in a technical field the benefit of completing a program designed with a unique pedagogic composition. Designed to satisfy the post baccalaureate development of working professionals, most courses are offered in the evening. This program combines a traditional computer science core with applied courses in information technology. This combination develops a skill set for the application of computer technology resources to solve a variety of information need problems. Additionally, this program develops communication and leadership skills required in the corporate/government sector.
The program requires 30-33 semester hours of graduate course work in computer science and information technology. Students will be required to complete a nine-semester hour core in computer science and choose a nine-semester hour concentration in computer science or information technology. Additionally, the student will select 12-15 hours in elective courses that will complete the concentration focus, including: software engineering, database administration, network administration, Internet systems, high performance computing, or computational science/scientific computing.
This integrated program in Computer Science and Information Technology combines the traditional foundations of computer science with the application of cutting edge information technology. The intended audience is employed technical professionals who want to upgrade their technical skills, recent college graduates who want to pursue graduate study in a technical field, and individuals who want to make a career change from a non-technical field.
WSSU has a proven record of providing high quality computer science education. The BS degree program in computer science has an outstanding history for preparing students to enter the computer science and related technology fields. The BS program has been accredited by the Computing Sciences Accreditation Commission (CSAC) and by the Computing Accreditation Commission (CAC) of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) since 1995. The program has consistently graduated students who have entered and excelled in the computer technology field. Graduates of this program are employed throughout Winston-Salem, the Triad, North Carolina, as well as throughout the United States faculty that is recognized for its leadership and productivity in the discipline, enhance teaching and learning through technology, and prepare students for a field that demands life-long learning.
