PROGRAM MISSION

The information technology program provides a high quality applications-oriented undergraduate education in computer information technology as a preparation for productive employment or graduate education.

STUDENT LEARNING OBJECTIVES

     Upon successful completion of the information technology program, students will:

1.  Exhibit proficiency in the design and development of computer programs and software systems.

2.  Exhibit proficiency in the application of digital circuits, networking, operating systems and computer architecture principles.

3.  Exhibit proficiency in the application of computer software, hardware, related technologies, procedures, and theories to problem solving.

4.  Show evidence of having achieved WSSU Educational Goals.

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS

All information technology majors earn a total of at least 122 semester hours of credit:

    40 hours  General Education
    19 hours  — Information Technology CORE (CSC 1000 and 2000 level courses)  
   
39 hours  — Information Technology ADVANCED (CSC 3000 and 4000 level courses)
      9 hours  — Mathematics (beyond MAT 1313) MAT 2326, 2337, 2317
   
  8 hours  — Science (beyond BIO 1301 & PHS 2336) PHY 3131, 3132
  
   7 hours  — General Electives: may include non-CSC courses and/or CSC courses

     122 hours total

Majors must earn at least a grade of “C” in all computer science, math, science and english courses.
