Minor Program in Computer Science 

The computer science minor program serves students from all academic disciplines and seeks to provide computer literacy and competence to enhance career opportunities within one's discipline. The computer science minor requires 19 hours of computer science beyond CSC 1306. The required courses are: 
    CSC 1310 Computer Programming I 
    CSC 1311 Computer Programming II 
    CSC 2311 Data Structures 
    CSC 23xx Language (Select CSC 2301, 2303, or 2350) 
    CSC 21xx (1 SH CSC lab) 
    CSC Language (Select CSC 2301, 2302, 2311 or 2350) 
    CSC 3xxx (Any 3000 level CSC course) 

Certificate Program in Computer Programming 

The certificate program is open only to individuals who have already completed a B.S. or B.A. degree. This program is designed for those wishing to make a career change to become computer programmers. Students completing this program will be qualified as entry-level programmers and will also satisfy minimum requirements for admission to graduate programs in computer science. 

For the convenience of students in this program, all courses are scheduled during the evenings. Two (2) years are typically required to complete this program. 

The student must complete the following courses with a grade of C or better. 

    CSC 3360 Fundamentals of Programming Fall year 1 
    CSC 3361 Intermediate Programming Spring year 1 
    CSC 3370 Systems Programming Fall year 2 
    CSC 3371 Applied Data Structures Spring year 2 
    CSC XXXX Language (Select CSC2301, 2303, 2311, or 2350) Fall year 2 
    CSC 3374 File Management Spring year 2 
To continue in the Certificate Program, students must pass CSC 3360 and CSC 3361 with an average grade of B or better, and pass a programming proficiency examination. Students with no prior computer experience should enroll in CSC 1306 The Computer and Its Use I prior to enrolling in the certificate program.
